The Essentials

Gear You'll Need

These four items are the foundation of your Muay Thai kit. Invest in quality and they’ll last you years.

16oz Boxing Gloves

Essential

Protects your hands and your training partner. 16oz is the standard weight for training — it offers the right balance of padding and wrist support.

Hand Wraps

Essential

Wraps stabilise your wrists and protect the small bones in your hands. You should wear them every session — even on the bag.

Shin Guards

Essential

Shin-to-shin contact hurts. Guards protect both you and your partner during drills and sparring.

Mouth Guard

Essential

Protects your teeth and jaw during partner drills and sparring. Non-negotiable once you start contact work.

Level Up

Optional Gear

Once you’ve got the basics, these extras will enhance your training as you progress.

Muay Thai Shorts

Recommended

Traditional Muay Thai shorts have a wide leg opening so you can kick freely. They also look the part.

Ankle Supports

Optional

Lightweight ankle wraps add stability and protect against minor sprains during pivots and kicks.

Groin Guard

For Sparring

Essential for sparring. Accidents happen — a groin guard is cheap insurance.

Elbow Pads

For Sparring

Used during clinch sparring and elbow drills to protect both you and your partner.
